Hoopeston ‘Hometown Hero’ Fundraiser

Local businesses and organizations are teaming up to help local heroes – firemen and other emergency responders.

The 'Hometown Hero' fundraiser on Saturday, October 5th is planned at McFerren Park in Hoopeston. The focus is to raise funds to replace damaged fire equipment from the recent tire recycling fire.

J & R Tire Recycling went up in flames in August. Several area fire departments provided mutual aid; billowing black smoke consumed much of the community. The EPA continues to monitor clean-up efforts. And fire equipment was damaged by the smoke and hazardous effects.

Hoopeston Regional Health Center has stepped up to work with community leaders to spearhead the fundraiser. Regional Health Center spokesperson is Liz Silver says a lot of fire equipment has to be replaced ......

The October 5th fundraiser includes family fun and entertainment. It centers around McFerren Park.
