Illinois education officials find issues with education funding revamp

State officials say programs to keep at-risk youth in school were short-changed in the sweeping school reform law passed last year.

Regional Superintendent Gregg Murphy, who serves Iroquois and Kankakee counties, says the state's $38 million in funding for programs for kids that are either truant or expelled is locked at last year's funding levels, not allowing for inflation budgeting. The programs take in the troubled youths and either get them diplomas or back in school. {IRN }
