February is American Heart Month. However, area hospitals insist a heart can be kept healthy year around.
Tonya Johnson-Wilcox, EMS Director at OSF Saint James-John W. Albrecht Medical Center in Pontiac, has some tips to keep the heart healthy.
“We should be paying attention to how we eat, how we exercise and what we can do to keep our heart healthy throughout the year not just for February,” Johnson-Wilcox said.
“Going for brisk walks, getting on the treadmill, watching what we eat, eating healthy, looking at heart healthy recipes is one way of doing that,” she added.
According to the American Heart Association 150 minutes of moderate activity is recommended to improve cardiovascular health.
