IDOT worker injured in Iroquois County colission

A Danforth man operating a tractor-mower for the Illinois Department of Transportation escaped serious injury Tuesday when his equipment was hit from behind.  It happened at 8:30 am on Route 45/52 at 3250 N Road in Iroquois County.

35-year-old Benjamin Redenius was treated for minor injuries at Riverside Hospital in Kankakee.  

Illinois State Police reported Redenius was northbound when a truck driven by Edgar Padilla of Park City came up from behind, hitting the tractor-mower and leaving a pile of ruins on the highway.  Route 45/52 was closed for two hours while the wreckage was cleaned up.  

Padilla was cited for Failure to Reduce Speed to avoid the crash.

Lake Shafer drowning victim

The Indiana Department of Natural Resources reported an elderly White County (IN) man drowned Monday. 82-year-old Edwin Franklin was identified as the victim.

The DNR said Edwin Franklin took his canoe out into Lake Shafer around 11 am to retrieve an item in the lake. He dropped his oar and fell into the water in his attempt to get the item.

Neighbors reported he was unresponsive when pulled ashore.

Benton County Relay for Life raises $10,000

Benton County, Indiana welcomed more than 100 cancer survivors (Saturday). The survivors and those who have lost their battle with the disease gathered for a Relay-for-Life event at Benton Central Jr-Sr High School.
Event organizer Aimee Green hopes more people will yet step up to help support the cause.

More than 10 teams and raised over $11,000.

Dwight home damaged by fire

The Dwight Fire Protection District reports investigators were trying today (Tuesday) to determine the cause of a rural house fire at Dwight.

The Monday night blaze alerted several departments. Agencies from Livingston County, Grundy County, Will County and Kankakee County responded to the fire around 7 pm. The location was just south of Dwight on 3100 North Road.

Firefighters found heavy fire and smoke on the first floor with heavy smoke throughout the entire structure. Two firefighters were treated and released at Morris Community Hospital.

No one was home at the time, but two pets died in the fire, according to Deputy Fire Chief Justin Dyer.

The MABAS Division 15 investigation team is looking for the cause.

Audrey Bloomquist crowned 2016 Ford County Fair Queen

18-year-old Audrey Bloomquist of Paxton was crowned the new Ford County Fair Queen last evening. The 2016 graduate of PBL High School has plans to attend the University of Wisconsin at Madison this fall. Political Science is her chosen major.

Miss Bloomquist was the judges' choice over nine other contestants. She is the 56th young lady to serve as Ford County Fair Queen. She was crowned by last year's queen, Amy Loschen of Kempton.

Audrey will represent Ford County at the Miss Illinois County Fair Queen pageant next January in Springfield.
20-year-old Amanda Diesburg of Paxton was selected as the first runner-up.

19-year-old Maddie Francis of Gibson City was the second runner-up.

Paxton resident, 18-year-old Karla Rodriguez was chosen as Miss Congeniality.
