County Board’s meet in regular session today

The proposed re-appointments of three of the four Iroquois County representatives who serve the Ford-Iroquois Public Health Department is a hot topic on today’s agenda for the Iroquois County Board meeting.

The meeting is at the Administrative Center in Watseka at 9 am.

The Policy & Procedure committee voted last week to send the matter to the full Board today. County Board Chairman Rod Copas called for the current members of the Health Board to resign or be replaced.

Board of Health members say “there’s been nothing done wrong and they won’t resign..”

Other Board of Health members are calling for the Iroquois County Board members to account for their own actions.

Vermilion County Board tonight is expected to consider two bids for a new roof on the Vermilion County Courthouse.

I-57 Crash Injures Two near Buckley

IROQUOIS COUNTY – Illinois State Police report both lanes of I-57 at Buckley are open after a fiery crash last evening closed both lanes of traffic.

Two people were taken to the hospital following the crash about 6:30 pm in the southbound lanes.

Two semis crashed on the interstate. One of those vehicles rolled over and caught on fire. Fire officials say the explosion was the vehicles’ tires and tomato jars.

The Buckley Fire Department is on scene. Fire Chief Tyler Ecker reported mutual aid was provided by Onarga and Gilman Fire. I-DOT closed both lanes for about five-hours between Onarga and Paxton. And ambulance personnel from Buckley, Gibson City and Riverside were on the scene.

A detour had motorists directed to Route 45, 54 and Route 9.

Two Men in Custody for Kankakee Shooting

Bond has been set at $1-million each for two men charged with the shooting of a Kankakee man Friday.

27-year-old Jerrell Wade and 22-year-old Jonathan Wade, both of Kankakee, are charged with Aggravated Battery with a Firearm.

Kankakee Police were called to the 600-block of N. 5th Avenue just before 3:30 Friday afternoon. Witnesses reported hearing several shots fired.

Gregory Dismuke of Kankakee was found shot several times.. Officers worked the scene and found the suspects on N. 8th Avenue. Both were taken into custody after they fled on foot.

Chicago Catholics plan prayer before conclave

CHICAGO (AP) -- Catholics in Chicago plan a Mass and prayer vigil as the conclave to elect a new Pope begins Tuesday at the Vatican.

The Archdiocese of Chicago plans the services Monday at Holy Name Cathedral in downtown Chicago. Officials with the Archdiocese say they want to be united with Chicago's Cardinal Francis George, who is in Rome for the election. The 75-year-old George is the leader of more than 2 million Roman Catholics in the Chicago area.

The Rev. John Canary will celebrate the Mass in Chicago. He is a monsignor and vicar general of the Archdiocese of Chicago. The prayer vigil will follow the Mass.

Former Pope Benedict XVI stunned the world last month when he announced he would resign the papacy. He officially stepped down Feb. 28.

Iroquois County Grand Jury Indictments

A Stalking charge led to other charges against an Ashkum man and then an indictment. The Iroquois County grand jury indicted 55-year-old David Brown for the Stalking offense, plus Aggravated Battery to a Peace Officer, Aggravated Fleeing & Attempted Fleeing & Alluding, and Violation of an Order of Protection.

During his arrest for a repeated violation of an Order of Protection, Brown is reported to have accelerated his pick-up truck with a deputy sheriff hanging from the driver’s side door. The deputy suffered a knee injury.

Brown was among nine defendants indicted by the grand jury.

Also indicted was 35-year-old Tunis Clyden of Milford for Aggravated Criminal Sexual Abuse. The defendant committed a sexual act with a victim under the age of 17. Clyden was under investigation by the Iroquois County Sheriff’s Department.

18-year-old Lindsey Weber of Paxton faces indictment for Criminal Damage to Property, That case was investigated by Sheriff’s police. The case was investigated for damage done to a residence in Loda.
