Why a Community Clothing Swap?
Swapapalooza offers a terrific chance to trade in gently-used clothing—and swap for some FREE, new-to-you attire! Clean out your closet, find new homes for your donations, and find your next favorite outfit.
How Does It Work?
Attending our clothing swap requires registration. Then, gather up 1-2 garbage bags (13-gallon, kitchen-sized, please) of any clothing that is freshly laundered and in good condition. Next, either drop off your donations between August 26 and September 6, and we’ll sort them into categories by specific type of garment for you. Or, bring your contributions on the day of Swapapalooza and sort them yourself before you “shop.”
This swap is meant for folks of all ages, and we will separate adult and children’s clothing. Parents may bring 1 bag of clothes per child they’ll be swapping for (in addition to any adult donations they have).
What Can I Expect On the Day of Swapapalooza?
Absolutely all sizes and styles are welcome. Accessories, bags, and shoes are also included in this exchange!
We will not count or keep track of how much you have donated; instead, we ask that participants follow an honor code and not take more than 2 bags home with them.
We are not able to offer changing facilities—if something looks nice and like it might fit, take it home and try it on!
When the Swapapalooza is finished, we will donate some of the remaining clothing to Harbor House. Harbor House exists to empower individuals, families, and communities through domestic violence programs, advocacy, and prevention. It operates two full-service shelters while also offering a 24-hour hotline, chatline, emergency and counseling services, outreach, Resale Shoppe, and advocacy for domestic violence survivors and their children. Harbor House staff serves over 500 survivors of domestic violence per year in Kankakee and Iroquois Counties.
We can’t wait to swap some duds with you, neighbor!
