Improvements to Watseka’s downtown business district are on the drawing table. An Adhoc Committee met last week asking for suggestions. Mayor John Allhands says a series of follow-up meetings will be scheduled over the upcoming weeks. The public is welcome. The city website and social media will keep those interested informed about the meetings.
Residential, property and business committee members are expressing interest in being involved. The Adhoc City Council members include: Brandon Barragree, Dennis Cahoe and Jenny Musk.
Several property sites have been visited. The potential sale of downtown properties was also discussed. Ideas also include establishing a downtown historical district.
Committee members are talking about documented data supporting the need to improve downtown; a long-term Comprehensive Plan would go along with the earlier-talked-about Illinois Housing Community Needs Analysis.
Grant monies have been explored. And funding is being put in place to get some smaller projects underway.
