Cash Bail advertising draws criticism

An Illinois criminal justice reform group is not happy with a new ad which attacks the Pretrial Fairness Act, the law starting next year that abolishes cash bail.  Chicago Appleseed Center for Fair Courts says the ad is dedicated to spreading fear, not promoting public safety.

Will County State’s Attorney Jim Glasgow has been an outspoken critic of eliminating cash bail.  He said "I won'tbe able to hold people over 90 days and then it they are released, and fail to show up for court, I can't obtain a warrant."

When the law goes into effect Jan. 1, the state will be required to provide each suspect a hearing within 48 hours to determine if the suspect should be released, a task that some district attorney’s say is nearly impossible.
