Twenty-four year-old Javon Frazier of Kankakee faces charges of driving under the influence of alcohol, failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident, failure to yield at a stop intersection, and for not wearing a seat belt --- after his car slammed into a pickup truck, killing a Watseka woman.
72-year-old Karen Sutfin died in the crash. She was a passenger in the truck driven by her husband. 77-year-old Joseph Sutfin of Watseka was seriously injured.
Also killed was a passenger in Frazier’s car. 27-year-old Prince Trowell of Kankakee suffered fatal injuries.
Both drivers, Joseph Sutfin and Frazier, were hospitalized in Kankakee.
State Police investigated at the Route 17 and Route 1 Junction just before 6 pm Tuesday.
The investigation showed Sutfin’s pickup was westbound on Route 17 attempted a left turn (on a green arrow) onto Route 1. The Frazier unit was eastbound at a high-rate of speed on Route 17, failed to stop at a stop light, hitting the Sutfin pickup.
Police stated both passengers were pronounced dead at the scene. Traffic was rerouted five hours for the crash investigation.
