The Bradley Police Department, along with the law enforcement community, are mourning the loss of Sergeant Marlene Rittmanic. The 49-year-old veteran officer, from Kankakee, was killed in the line of duty (Thursday) while serving the citizens of Bradley.
Bradley Police Chief Don Barber is asking, on behalf of the department, that the “public respectfully give consideration to the family of Sergeant Rittmanic and the Bradley Police Department while they continue to grieve and work through this tragedy. ”
Another Bradley officer is in critical condition. 27-year-old Tyler Bailey underwent emergency surgery at a Chicago-area hospital. Both were shot Wednesday night responding to a noise-complaint at a location along Illinois Route 50 in Bradley. Sgt. Rittmanic died of her injuries at a local hospital.
A procession in honor of Sergeant Rittmanic carried her body from the County morgue to the Clancy-Gernon Funeral Home in Bourbonnais. Hundreds of onlookers, some displaying flags, lined the procession route Thursday afternoon.
