Two people are dead, another injured after a head-on collision Tuesday night on I-57. The two victims, both from Elgin (IL), were in one of the vehicles. The injured individual was the sole occupant of the second vehicle involved.  Initial reports indicated a SB car was in the NB lanes. The wrong-lane driver faces charges which are pending.

Illinois State Police investigated the crash. Emergency personnel from Iroquois County were on the scene for some 4-hours. The initial call came in at 11:30 pm.
Ashkum Fire and Riverside Ambulance, State Police, County Sheriff’s Police and I-DOT detoured traffic off NB I-57.  The accident happened just north of the Ashkum interchange.
