Nancy Rish set free

Nancy Rish is a free woman today (Friday).  She was released from prison Thursday after serving time for her role in the 1987 murder of Kankakee businessman Stephen Small. The 60-year-old Rish will be on parole for three years.  She was originall sentenced to life in prison for the aggravated kidnapping of Small.

Rish's parole came after a successful argument from her lawyers who asked  for a reduce prison term in response to a state law allowing convicted felons to challenge their sentences if their crimes were linked to being domestic abuse victims.  The argument was that Rish was coerced by ex-boyfriend Danny Edwards into driving him and that she was unaware of his plan to kidnap Stephen Small, who suffocated after being buried alive.
