Correction > Hoopeston couple killed in head-on collision on Illinois Route 1

Two people from Hoopeston were killed and another Hoopeston man was injured in a head-on collision Tuesday. Illinois State Police and the Vermilion County investigated, between Hoopeston and Rossville.

Coroner Jane McFadden issued a correction. The two people killed, Jerry and Linda Crippin, were from Hoopeston. An earlier report stated the were from Danville.

According to a release from Illinois State Police, it was just before 2:30 pm (Tues) when 25-year-old Joshua A. Newberry of Hoopeston was northbound in a pickup truck. His truck crossed the center line and struck a Jeep Liberty driven southbound by by 62-year-old Linda Crippin of Hoopeston head-on.

Crippin and her passenger, Jerry Crippin, were both pronounced dead at the scene. Newberry was taken by ambulance to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
Newberry was ticketed for improper lane usage and not wearing a seat belt.
