More overdoses investigated in Kankakee

A series of fentanyl-related overdoses in Kankakee are under investigation.  And police now report two more suspected overdoses occurred since local officials reported seven in a 24-hour period. Social media posts are alerting the public.  Kankakee County Coroner Bob Gessner has issued alerts for some time, fearing this was going to happen.

The Daily-Journal reported seven such overdoses resulted in two deaths. Now, two new cases — one of which was fatal — are in addition to the seven cases reported Friday.
A 51-year-old male was found dead Saturday in his vehicle in the 1100 block of East Merchant Street in Kankakee. The D-J reported Kankakee Police Chief Robin Passwater said investigators and the coroner’s office are awaiting toxicology reports to officially confirm the cause of death was an overdose. Also on Saturday, an overdose victim was revived by emergency responders with the Kankakee Fire Department.

Passwater said “Our investigators continue to investigate these cases to identify the source of the illegal drugs.”

A 20-year-old female and a 37-year-old male, both of Kankakee, died from overdoses.
