Today (Monday) marks the second federal holiday of the new year….MLK Day. This third Monday of January honors the slain civil rights leader. Most schools, government offices, banks are closed. There’s no mail delivery.

Many larger cities are also remembering Dr. King with local observances, including a gospel concert in Kankakee (New Missionary Baptist Church), and there’s an annual service in Danville. A prayer breakfast and church services are on agendas in Kankakee and Danville.

Many other MLK observances are cancelled or scaled back to the COVID surge.
