The FAA and the National Transportation Safety Board is working with local officials investigating a downed plane in Iroquois County that’s resulted in one fatality. Two others were injured.

Dorothy Stockard of Hermitage died of her injuries after being transferred to Loyola Medical Center. She was a passenger onboard the aircraft that made an emergency landing in rural Chebanse.
The pilot and another passenger were treated for injuries at hospitals in Kankakee.

Iroquois County Sheriff’s Police reported the initial call came in just before 2 pm Friday. The single-engine plane attempted an emergency landing near 1561 W and 3300 N. The plane , piloted by Ray Jakubiak of Naperville, experienced engine problems prior to the attempted landing in a wheat field. The plane caught fire after the impact. The plane had left Nashville enroute to the Chicago area.

The pilot and the other passenger identified as Wrenne Jakubiak, also of Naperville were treated at Kankakee hospitals.

The investigation continues by the Iroquois County Sheriff’s Department, Federal Aviation Administration and the N.T.S.B. Illinois State Police and the fire departments from Ashkum, Otto Township, Beaverville, and Aroma Park also assisted on scene.
