The National Weather Service is reporting we can brace for cold temperatures and gusty winds for a while. There is also a threat of snow to usher in the new year.
Monday's high should be around 15 degrees with northwesterly winds between 6 and 10 miles per hour. That will drop the wind chill factor into a range of -6 degrees to -16 degrees.

Tuesday's high will be around 23 degrees, but there is a chance of snow on Tuesday night for New Year's Eve.
The NWS says we won't see a warm-up for a while.

The highs won't climb above the freezing mark until the start of next week at the earliest. Tuesday's high is expected to be 23 degrees and the high temperatures will remain below the 20-degree mark before a slight warming trend arrives Saturday. The high then is expected to reach 31 degrees.

Sunday, a light freezing drizzle created a glaze on several roads, parking lots and sidewalks around Central Illinois. There was snow reported in parts of Iroquois, Kankakee and Livingston counties. I-DOT reported several departments sent salt trucks to the streets to help with the icy conditions, and several minor accidents were reported by local officials and Illinois State Police.
