Newton County Sheriff’s Police report a pedestrian was struck and killed on a State Highway in Newton County Tuesday.  A 9-1-1 call alerted authorities to a crash  just before 7:30 pm on State Road 10 near CR 570 E. 

The preliminary investigation indicates a car driven by a 19 year-old Lake Village, IN man was westbound on SR 10 and struck a pedestrian in the roadway. The pedestrian, a 40 year old DeMotte, IN was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the passenger car was not injured.

Names of those involved are being withheld at this time as this is an active investigation.

Assisting agencies included:  Newton County Communications, Newton County EMA, Newton County EMS, Lincoln Twp. Fire, Jasper County Sheriff’s Office, Indiana State Police and the Newton County Coroner’s Office.
