It is time to honor those who labor in various jobs both locally, and across the nation. And in Vermilion County they will be honored in style with parades in Danville, Hoopeston and Westville...plus some big Labor Day Weekend celebrations.
In Hoopeston, the 70th National Sweetcorn Festival will have people lining up for sweetcorn, free of charge! And the Hoopeston celebration includes everything from carnival rides, a Grand Parade starting at 10:30 Saturday morning, music, demo derby, flea markets and more.
Earlier this week the volunteers who made the Westville Depot and Museum a reality were named as the Grand Marshals for Monday's Westville parade. It starts at 11:30 Monday morning following the Danville Labor Day Parade.
Part of the Hoopeston celebration this year will again involve the crowning of Miss National Sweetheart. There are 42 contestants from across the United States and Puerto Rico who will be participating in the competition. The preliminaries are being held on Friday and Saturday, with the crowning of the new Miss National Sweetheart on Sunday.
Other Labor Day celebrations are at Herscher, The Kankakee River Regatta, and the Earl Park Fall Festival in Indiana.
