Watseka City Council schedules special session Saturday

A special meeting of the Watseka City Council is set for 9 am Saturday. The closed session, according to Mayor John Allhands, is to review all the options of the city’s water and sewer system and to get a perspective as “where we’re at.”

The meeting, the Mayor stressed, is not to sell the water system to Aqua Illinois --- despite what Facebook conspirators are saying.

The special meeting, as stated on the agenda, is to discuss operation of a municipal utility by a municipality.

Mayor Allhands explained the Illinois Open Meetings Act allows closed session to discuss contracts. The city is currently under contract with ERH Enterprises of Westville. The Vermilion County company manages the city’s water and sewer system. That contract comes due soon. And the mayor said, “we certainly don’t want to tip our hats in open session” when we may be in negotiations.”
