The Ford County State's Attorney is offering accused murder Ryan Nibbe a chance to plead guilty to 2nd-degree murder for a beating death of another man outside a Gibson City apartment building.
State's Attorney Matt Fitton made the offer during a pretrial hearing in Paxton to dismiss two counts of felony battery in return for a guilty plea to second-degree murder.
No decision was made. The defense is reviewing evidence in the case.
The 34-year-old Nibbe of Gibson City, is charged in the death of 44-year-oldTimothy Robertson of Gibson City.
Nibbe was charged initially on August 2 with two counts of felony battery in connection with the July 28 altercation that led to the death of Robertson. After Robertson died August 5 from a head injury he received in the altercation, Fitton charged Nibbe with one count of second-degree murder.
An autopsy showed Robertson suffered a skull fracture as a result of a punch. The autopsy ruling on the cause of death was "complications from blunt force trauma."
