It appears there will be a Democratic race in the Illinois Primary Election next year for the Illinois House seat in the 79th legislative district.
John Howard, a Kankakee County Board member in Pembroke Township's District 4, announced his candidacy today (Tues). He'll challenge Representative Kate Cloonen, D-Kankakee.
Campaign flyers distributed by Howard point to the need to get rid of self-appointed, hand-picked individuals. Howard says there should be a choice for voters.
Howard is from Hopkins Park. He won election to the county board in District 4 in 2012.
The 79th legislative district includes Kankakee County and parts of Will and Grundy counties.
Howard or Cloonen would run against Republican candidate Glenn Nixon next November. WSo far, Nixon is the lone GOP candidate.
