River search ends, car and body recovered

A day-long search of the Kankakee River Thursday ended with searchers recovering a body found inside a car, which had plunged into the river after crashing thru a barrier. The Kankakee County Coroner's Office identified the body of 20-year-old Nasir Douglas of Bradley. The investigation into the incident continues.  Emergency responders answered a call around 9 am that a car had ran thru a barrier on South Indiana Avenue, plunging into the river.

Kankakee Fire Chief Damon Schuldt said search crews were hampered by the fast-moving current.  The car was pulled from the river around 4:30 Thursday afternoon.
