Memorial Day 2020 was a bit different (Monday) but even though so many traditional services were canceled, others still felt the need to gather to pay respects. The continuing pandemic threw the holiday tradition a curve this time. A brief ceremony was held at Legion Park in Watseka where Post #23 members asked visitors to watch in their vehicles. Dozens gathered at other memorials too. … to honor fallen men and women for Memorial Day.
The stay-at-home order continues, social distancing was practiced and many of the men, women, and children who attended rallies felt the need to be present.
Flags were displayed at cemeteries in the area. Cissna Park Legion Post 527 hosted a brief ceremony in the local park Monday – the Legion’s 55th consecutive service for the holiday. The Color Guard and Rifle Team was there.
Chebanse American Legion Post 408 and its Auxilliary were at Evergreen Cemetery and flags were displayed at graves in Ashkum, Chebanse, Clifton and L’Erable. Flags were also displayed at cemeteries in Kankakee County.
