IROQUOIS COUNTY – Illinois State Police report both lanes of I-57 at Buckley are open after a fiery crash last evening closed both lanes of traffic.
Two people were taken to the hospital following the crash about 6:30 pm in the southbound lanes.
Two semis crashed on the interstate. One of those vehicles rolled over and caught on fire. Fire officials say the explosion was the vehicles’ tires and tomato jars.
The Buckley Fire Department is on scene. Fire Chief Tyler Ecker reported mutual aid was provided by Onarga and Gilman Fire. I-DOT closed both lanes for about five-hours between Onarga and Paxton. And ambulance personnel from Buckley, Gibson City and Riverside were on the scene.
A detour had motorists directed to Route 45, 54 and Route 9.
