The National Weather Service has revised its storm watch, now cancelling the Winter Storm Watch that had been posted for Ford and Iroquois Counties in Illinois and Benton County, Indiana for Tuesday.

The Weather Service says it now appears the worst of a winter storm moving into central Illinois will be well to the west of us.

There could still be some ice accumulation of less than a tenth of an inch in the Danville, Champaign-Urbana area tonight. And some snow could mix with rain at times Tuesday morning, but little or no snow accumulation is expected in our area.

Meteorologists say forecasting the type of precipitation is a bit tricky; because the atmosphere will be warmer than it was with the previous storm system.

One inch or less of snow is likely to accumulate in the Decatur area with no snow accumulation expected further east.

Along the I-55 corridor (including Bloomington-Normal, Lincoln and Springfield) one to three inches of snow is expected. Near the Illinois River (including Peoria, Havana and Jacksonville) three to five inches of snow is forecast. And west of the Illinois River (including Galesburg and Rushville), six to eight inches of snow is expected Tuesday.

Earlier reports had a Winter Storm Watch issued for Iroquois, Ford and Benton Counties….with a mix of winter weather for Kankakee, Livingston, Newton and Porter counties in Indiana.
