Tuesday is National Night Out and several law enforcement agencies are hosting local events. The program is a nationwide celebration by police departments to improve both community safety and relations with the community. Several police departments will be taking part, including Champaign, Kankakee, Morris, Springfield and Decatur.
Champaign Police will sponsor five neighborhood-based events between 4 p.m. and 7 p.m. People are encouraged to show support by turning on their homes’ exterior lights, gathering outdoors and spend time with their neighbors and police officers.
Kankakee County law enforcement is teaming with fire departments and community groups for the 40th annual Night Out event at Perry Farm in Bourbonnais. A family-fun event includes kids activities, food and musical entertainment.
Several registered neighborhood groups submitted applications to receive $500 grants to host an event, and a number of groups received a grant to host an event.
