Iroquois County and Kankakee County election officials are informing political candidates of established parties that they can begin circulating petitions for the 2024 Illinois Primary Election. Petition paper-work is available at respective County Clerks' offices. The filing period for next year's Primary is November 27 thru December 4, 2023.
Iroquois County Clerk Breein Suver informs would-be candidates county-wide offices to be nominated include: Circuit Clerk, Coroner, and State's Attorney. Eight county board seats, two in each of the four districts, and all 37 precincts will have committeemen elected.
Petitions are available in the County Clerk's office.
Kankakee County Clerk Dan Hendrickson welcomes inquiries about the election filing process.
Every precinct in Kankakee County will hold elections for political party nominees for offices including President, U.S. Representative, Illinois General Assembly,
Countywide Offices, County Board Members and Precinct Committeepersons. Only candidates running for a county office – (Circuit Clerk, Recorder, Auditor,
State’s Attorney, Coroner), County Board or Precinct Committeeperson will submit their petitions with the County Clerk’s office. Candidates running for other
offices will file with the State Board of Elections in Springfield.
Prospective candidates must file their petitions between November 27th and December 4th. Candidates running for the same office that file simultaneously at 8:30 a.m. on November 27th will be eligible for a lottery to determine the top position on the March 19th ballot, Hendrickson said. Candidates who file within the last hour for filing on December 4th will be eligible for a lottery to determine the last position on the ballot.
