Several sites are identified as cooling centers for the hot days ahead. Churches and service agencies often times open their doors for people to seek relief.
The Iroquois County Emergency Management Agency (EMA) is notifying residents of available cooling centers. The sites are to ensure the most vulnerable people are safe during the hot summer days. The cooling centers offer air-conditioned relief during the extreme heat or whenExcessive Heat Advisories/Warnings are issued by the National Weather Service.
Cooling Centers are open during regular business hours: Cissna Park Village Hall, Gilman City Hall, Milford Community Center (within City Hall), Watseka Public Library, Walmart. (Iroquois County website notices offer updates).
Residents are encouraged to look in on relatives, senior citizens and friends and neighbors. Also -- check on pets.
