An Iroquois County Board member is seeking the Illinois Senate seat that Tom Bennett plans to give up in 2025. Paul Ducat of Clifton is announcing his intent to seek the Republican nomination for the 53rd Senate District…
"I'm interested and I believe I bring experience to fill the seat Tom Bennett will leave behind in a couple years," Ducat said. "I'm driven to help people and my mission is to give people hope and live a better life."
Ducat is currently the Vice-Chair of the Iroquois County Board. He's held several positions at the county level. He’s chairman of the American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) committee, which came about thru the Federal government plan to distribute recovery monies from the COVID pandemic. ARPA is filtering federal dollars to help agencies and people recover from the economic burdens brought on from the pandemic…
"I've always been interested in a larger opportunity to help more people in a positive way. This opportunity presented itself."
Ducat says he’s reaching out district-wide early on, to get a handle on the 53rd District needs. He wants to touch the people of the District and learn from them what their priorities are all about."
Ducat could be one of several candidates for the Senate seat. He believes getting a head-start on the field of hopefuls will open doors for meeting the voters. He said the economy, jobs, high cost of living are what people seem to talk about.
The 53rd District includes most all of the Iroquois, Ford, Livingston, Woodford and Grundy and part of LaSalle County areas.
