"Sergeant Marlene R. Rittmanic Memorial Highway"

An Illinois House Resolution gained approval (Tuesday) designating the 315 Overpass along I-57 at Bradley the "Sergeant Marlene R. Rittmanic Memorial Highway."

The Resolution honors the memory of Sgt. Rittmanic, who was killed in the line of duty December 30, 2021.  The veteran officer and her partner, Bradley police officer Tyler Bailey, were ambushed during a call to a motel over a noise complaint.  Sgt. Rittmanic died of injuries from a gunsoot while Bailey was seriously injured.  He has been recovering.

Representative Jackie Haas sponsored House Resolution 15.  "We honor Marlene's heroism and the place near where her life was taken."  Haas said all drivers who pass this designated area will be reminded of the sacrifice police officers and their families make for the safety of our communities.

Rittmanic was a 21-year law enforcement veteran.  She worked as an Iroquois County Sheriff Deputy for seven years prior to joining the Bradley Police Department, where she earned the rank of Sgt.  She was widely known as a leader in community policing.
