The March 2022 traffic crash in Kankakee County that claimed the life of Karen Sutfin of Watseka is sending the Kankakere man responsible to prison. Javon Frazier was sentenced to 20 years for Aggravated Driving Under the Influence. Frazier was the driver of a vehicle involved in a double-fatal crash at Illinois Route 1 and 17 on March 8, 2022.
Kankakee County Judge Thomas Cunnington imposed the sentence (last Thursday).
The 25-year-old Frazier pleaded guilty to causing the deaths of Karen Sutfin and his own passenger, 27-year-old Prince Trowell of Kankakee. Court records also show Frazier pleaded guilty to Aggravated DUI for causing great bodily harm of Karen Sutfin's husband, Joe Sutfin. He did recover from his injuries.
Illinois State Police reported Joe Sutfin's pickup truck was hit by Frazier's speeding vehicle, which ran thru a stop light at the intersection. The Sutfin pickup was hit while turning from westbound Route 17 onto Route 1. Frazier's car was eastbound on 17. Trowell was a passenger in Frazier's car.
The Kankakee County State's Attorney's Office provided proof that Frazier's blood-alcohol level registered .199. The legal limit is .08.
