Riverside Ambulance, pickup truck collide in Indiana

A Riverside ambulance and a pickup truck were involved in a crash (Monday) on U-S 41 and State Road 16 in Newton County, IN. Sheriff’s Police responded near Brook at 2:15 pm. Sheriff Shannon Cothran reports the eastbound pickup struck the ambulance on the passenger side, causing the ambulance to rollover onto its driver’s side. The unit then slid into a ditch and ended upright.

The medical personnel onboard the ambulance were unharmed. There was no patient in the ambulance at the time.  Three adult males in the pickup were treated at area hospitals for complaints of pain.

The investigation revealed the Riverside Ambulance was westbound thru the intersection, providing mutual aid to Newton County EMS. The ambulance had its emergency lights and siren activated. The eastbound pickup hit the side of the ambulance.

Sheriff deputies said all involved were wearing seatbelts which prevented more serious injuries.
