Fall Harvest underway, yields appear better than expected

Rainfall in parts of east-central Illinois appear to have helped the crops. And local observers report the fall harvest may be better than earlier expectations.

The dry fields did receive rain of late, and farmers now combining are seeing better than expected results. Welcome rains have evened up the dried out fields.

Some selected Champaign and Vermilion County farmers report … ‘some of the beans are too dry, and so that evens some out, knocks the leaves off and it makes harvest a lot better. The recent rains have been most-welcome.’

New hybrids appear to be more weather resistant.
