Newton County Sheriff's Department Teams with ISP to Conduct Traffic Blitz, Again.

Indiana State Police Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Division, along with the Newton County Sheriff's Office, conducted a traffic enforcement blitz in Newton County (last Wednesday). This is the second traffic blitz in the last four months in this county that was focused on commercial vehicle enforcement. The officers were primarily focused on trucks traveling on U.S. 41 and on S.R. 55 due to continued complaints of overweight trucks on those roadways.

The blitz resulted in 13 truck inspections, 5 traffic citations and 14 warnings. Of the 13 inspections conducted, there were 41 violations noted on those inspections. 77% of the trucks stopped (10 of the 13 weighed) were overweight in some form. One driver was found driving with a CDL (Commercial Driver’s License) status that had been revoked in Illinois. One driver was placed out of service and 6 trucks were placed out of service for violations.
