The Livingston County Board adjourned early Thursday evening, postponing its regularly scheduled monthly meeting until a location could be found that could accommodate the crowd of more than 300 people who would not normally attend.

Hundreds of representatives and employees of United Auto Workers, Teamsters, American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees and other labor groups were present to express concern about Gov. Bruce Rauner's controversial Turnaround Agenda.

The agenda includes a right-to-work provision he hoped counties would support and possibly put up for referendum. Right-to-work legislation is cited by unions as threatening to the power of unionized labor.

The meeting was to begin in a second story hall of the Historic Courthouse. Shortly after calling the meeting to order, Livingston County Board Chairman Marty Fannin announced that, due to an inability to accommodate everyone, the meeting would take a 15-minute recess. The meeting was moved to another hall in the Law and Justice Center.

The second meeting hall was also filled beyond capacity.

Fannin then announced that the room was not large enough for the people attending, and motioned for adjournment, noting that the meeting was postponed until a larger facility could house all of those who might plan to attend.
