Discussions are underway again in governmental circles in Kankakee County. There's serious talk about another round of budget cuts, following up on last year's elimination of sheriff deputies and correctional officers.
Revenues are not meeting projections. And couple the local picture with budget problems for lawmakers in Springfield, expectations are the state of Illinois will reduce county funding by another $1.5 million dollars.
As talks continue, County Board Chairman Mike Bossert says eliminating jobs may be the next step. He said furlough days, time off and shortened work week are all possibilities.
