Newton County authorities are searching for who's responsible for setting a fire to an abandoned house in the area of Mt Zion/rural Washington Township.

Brook and Kentland fire departments responded to a structure fire just after 3 am last Friday. The fire was an abandoned two-story house and shed near County Road 1050 South and County Road 500 West in Newton County.

According to Brook Fire Chief Kyle Conrad, the fire was intentionally set.

No injuries were reported. Firefighters were on the scene for about 45 minutes.
