Kankakee County hosting 9-11 WTC Memorial Quilt Project

It’s all about remembering the victims of 9-11. And the historical WTC (World Trade Center) Memorial Quilt Project is now on display at the Kankakee County Fairgrounds – for all to see and experience.

The magical and breath-taking quilt display was designed to remember those who lost their lives in the World Trade Center attacks of September 11, 2001.

The historical quilt can be viewed thru Thursday, May 9 in the Expo Building at the Kankakee County Fairgrounds It’s available daily 9 am ‘til 9 pm. Donations are welcome to cover the travel expense.

Beverly Kuemin of Niles, MI has picked up the ball as proud keeper of the quilt and takes it on tour.

Beverly explains how Amy Sue Leasure started the project after the tragic attacks. Amy was an avid quilter, mother and police dispatcher from Prescott Valley, AZ. She created the quilts as a dedication to those who lost their lives in 9-11.

Beverly tells us Amy died of cancer in 2002. The project was put on hold until Brian Kohler finished the project and put the quilt on display for the first time in 2004. Now, Beverly Kuemin says, this tour is about respect.

Visitors can see how special the quilt is and how it relates to the memories of the 9-11 lives lost.

Amy Leasure’s vision was to have the quilt become part of a permanent exhibit in a museum, hopefully in New York.
