Unemployment figures point to some improvement

The Illinois Department of Labor reports unemployment rates in east-central Illinois fell during January.  The COVID-19 pandemis may bring a different outlook in next month's report, as many people may experience no work.

Kankakee County unemployment was at 5.4% in January … DOWN from 7.1% in 2019. Iroquois County numbers were at 5%, up from 4.7% in December. Champaign County was 3.4%, down from 5.2 last year at this time. 

The January unemployment rate in the city of Danville of 4.9 percent is down 1.8 percent from a year ago. Vermilion County’s jobless rate fell 1.7 percent over the year – dropping from 6.6 to 4.9 percent (in January).
