Aging buildings and continuous flooding issues has forced the Unit Nine school board to find solutions. A three-phase study is moving forward to seek a new building or remodel current structures. Board president James Bruns says "it's time to take the necessary steps toward a solution."
The financial picture could bring different scenarios. And the study will explore both state and federal funding. Grants and the school district's bonding authority will be considered too.
The school board is enlisting the help of an architectural firm, Reifsteck Reid who has tied to the DLR Group -- a team-approach to finding building solutions. Options will be explored, including the scope, quality mand size of any project. Community groups will be asked to work with the team and the school board in reaching compromise solutions. The effort is part of a 10-year capital improvement plan. The DLR approach is to find and make a recommendation based on the best value for the school district. The goal is to progress toward phase two of the study by September.
