A mattress fire in a 2nd floor apartment alerted the Kankakee Fire Department Saturday morning.  A young child sleeping on the bed  was awakened when he felt his leg getting hot, according to Fire Chief Bryan LaRoche.  No injury reported.  The fire is under investigation. The flames were quickly extinguished.  Fire crews responded to the 300-block of North harrison Avenue at 9:15 am.
