A new three-year contract is in place for teachers in the Ford County GCMS school district. The Gibson City-Melvin-Sibley school board approved a new collective bargaining contract. The pact calls for annual pay increases of 9.66%, 4.5% and 2.95%. An Education Association press release calls it “competitive compensation, designed to attract and retain high-quality educators.”
The new agreement between the board and the GCMS Teachers Education Association is effective from September 1, 2026, through August 31, 2029. The contract also includes “sustainable health insurance provisions that balance employee benefits with responsible fiscal management; continued support for professional development and classroom resources; and provisions that promote stability and continuity for students and families,” according to the GCMS Education Association.
Superintendent Jeremy Darnell stated, “Both parties remained focused on what matters most: ensuring high-quality instruction for our students while recognizing the professionalism and dedication of our teachers.” Darnell further said “This agreement reflects thoughtful dialogue and a shared understanding of our responsibility to students, staff and taxpayers. We appreciate the professionalism of the association’s bargaining team and the spirit of collaboration demonstrated throughout this process.”
