Unemployment numbers down

All of Illinois’ major metro areas report lower unemployment rates over the year, according to the Illinois Department of Employment Security. Despite the declining unemployment rate, three metro areas lost jobs: Danville, Kankakee and East St. Louis. Statewide, Illinois gained 94,700 jobs in the past year.

Ford and Iroquois counties were below year-ago levels in June, as jobless rates decreased in all 14 of Illinois’ metropolitan areas when compared with June 2018.
Data released show Ford County had an unemployment rate of 3.9 percent in June 2019, down from 5.2 a year earlier, while Iroquois County’s jobless rate was 3.4 percent last month, down from 4.2 percent a year earlier.
Meanwhile, the Champaign-Urbana Metro Area had an unemployment rate of 3.8 percent last month, down from 5 percent in June 2018.

The Vermilion County jobless rate rose from 4.5% in May to 4.7 in June. Kankakee County is listed at  4.3% in June.  It was 5.4% in June of 2018.
