Kankakee Firefighters Douse 2 Residential Fires July 4th

                                                                         Fireworks blamed for $15,000 in damage

The Kankakee Fire Department extinguished a fire that officials said was started by fireworks.  About 11 pm Saturday night, firefighters responded to a house in the 700 block of North Harrison Avenue, according to Fire Chief Bryan LaRoche.  The fire was extinguished quickly. The residents of the house were able to remain in the home. The house sustained an estimated $15,000 in damages.  There were no injuries.

Second house fire ---

At approximately 9:40 am Saturday, Kankakee firefighters extinguished a mattress fire in an upstairs bedroom of a home in the 300 block of East Water.  The fire was quickly extinguished but displaced four people, two adults and two children. Damage was estimated at approximately $30,000. There were no injuries and the fire remains under investigation.
