Iroquois County Burn Ban officially Lifted

The Iroquois County BURN BAN is lifted.  As of today (Thursday 2/26), the burn ban prohibiting any burning is peeled back – at least for now. Fire Chiefs and others in the public safety circle emphasize the need for common sense, should winds pickup.

The dry timber, farm fields are prone to burn out of control in a hurry due to the dry environment and potentially dangerous winds. Drought conditions are still a threat, and couple that with how dry it’s been and the winds --- TROUBLE COULD BREW in a hurry.

The Eastern Illinois Fire Chief’s Association, along with County Board (Chairman Paul Ducat) are notifying all Iroquois County residents that the burn ban that was in place County-wide has officially been lifted.

Ashkum Fire Chief and President of the Eastern Illinois Fire Chief’s Association Jeff Glenn said, “You have to use common sense. If the wind is blowing, and there is a red flag warning issued by the National Weather Service -- you can’t burn !”

Glenn says “ Regardless if a burn ban is officially issued or not. If you feel a need to burn CRP ground, contact your local fire chief and communicate with them before you light that fire!”

The Eastern Illinois Fire Chief’s Association, the Iroquois County Board and the Iroquois County Emergency Management Agency extend a Thank You everyone that respected the ban. It’s about safety !!
