Iroquois Memorial Hospital is partnering with Kankakee Community College to help educate the next generation of health care professionals. Certified Nursing Assistant students and faculty from KCC are completing clinical experiences at the IMH Resident Home and Progressive Care Unit. Students are gaining valuable hands-on experience, working alongside experienced health care professionals in a real-world care setting.
In addition to developing essential clinical skills, the students are making a meaningful impact on the lives of residents through compassionate care, engaging conversations and participation in daily activities. Their enthusiasm, kindness and dedication have been warmly welcomed by residents and staff alike.
“Our partnership with Kankakee Community College reflects our commitment to investing in the future of health care,” said Moranda Matheson, MSN, MBA, RN, nurse educator. “Eleven years ago, my own health care journey began in a CNA classroom and clinical setting, just like these students. That experience opened the door to opportunities I never imagined. We are proud to provide a supportive environment where students can build confidence, develop essential skills and take the first step toward a rewarding career caring for others.”
Michelle Fairley, vice president of patient health, said providing quality clinical experiences is an important part of IMH’s mission to strengthen the future health care workforce. Fairley says “Supporting students as they transition from the classroom to patient care helps build a stronger pipeline of compassionate, skilled caregivers for our region.” She adds, “We are proud of the mentorship our staff provides and the opportunity to help shape the next generation of health care professionals.”
