IHSA State Finals for Girls Track and Field is today. Area athletes competing include:

Milford/Cissna Park’s Addison Lucht in the triple jump, shot put, and long jump.

Clifton Central’s Lia Prairie  in the discus 

Iroquois West’s Phylicity Leonard in the shot put.

Wilmington’s McKenna Van Tilburg moved on in the 100 hurdles, 300 hurdles, 200 meters and 100 meters.

Bishop McNamara’s 4x200 relay team of Dylan Pallissard, Trinitee Thompson, Jaide Burse and Jersey Sloan reached the finals. Alyssa Wollenzien of Reed-Custer qualified for the finals in the 100 hurdles.

Kankakee’s  4x200 team of Jemya Williams, Trinity Noble, Amiyah Anderson and Essence Bell and 4x100 team of Williams, Bell, Jasiah Hawkins and Noble advanced to today's finals. Bell also moved on as an individual in the 200 meters.

Manteno had three athletes qualify for the finals: Olivia McElroy in the high jump, Sophia Most in the discus, and Klarke Goranson in the 1,600 meters and the 800 meters.

Coal City’s Marina Figge qualifyied for the long jump finals.

The Illinois Central Eight Conference is expected to expand to 10 schools, as this week both Seneca and Sandwich’s boards of education listed agenda items to leave their current homes to join the ICE Conference beginning with the 2027-28 school year.

The Chicago White Sox have acquired left-handed pitcher Joe Rock from the Tampa Bay Rays in exchange for infielder Oliver Dunn. Rock has been optioned to Class AAA Charlotte.

White Sox catcher Kyle Teel has been diagnosed with a sprained right lateral collateral ligament (LCL), which is expected to require 3-6 weeks of rest and rehabilitation before he can return to play. He suffered the injury during a rehab assignment game in the minors.

Joey Chestnut, the reigning champion and 17-time winner of the Nathan's Famous International Hot Dog Eating Contest, will compete in the July 4 spectacle while on probation after he pleaded guilty to a misdemeanor battery charge.
