45-year-old Billy Walker faces several felony charges in connection with what authorities call an illegal dogfighting ring. On file are charges that include 18 counts of dog fighting, 2-counts of animal torture, and 2-counts of aggravated cruelty to animals. Kankakee County State's Attorney Jim Rowe said the investigation continues.
KAMEG (Kankakee Metropolitan Enforcement Group) agents assisted the County Animal Control division in the investigation of a residence in Pembroke Township. Evidence of dog fighting were found, injured dogs tied to trees and weighted collars and several animal medications were seized.
The arrest came after a traffic stop on I-57 Friday night. Walker was a passenger in a vehicle. The driver, 41-year-old Yachia Austin, was also arrested for possession of drugs and fleeing to elude police.
