NWS reports number of confirmed tornadoes from Friday growing …

The Knauth cattle farm near Milford and Kentland, Indiana are two more sites where tornadoes did damage Friday night, according to the National Werather Service (NWS).

An EF-2 tornado was confirmed (Monday) after a NWS team surveyed the damage at the Knauth Farm outside of Milford.  The assessment team said the path continued from the farmsite east into Darrow, sheared off fairly new power poles at the base near Effner (at the Newton County line).  It then moved off into Newton County, IN.  It marked the second time this year Mother Nature chose to link up with the cattle farm.  No livestock were injured.

Early Monday afternoon -- the NWS confirmed an EF-1 tornado touched down near the intersection of 1700 S and 250 W, then crossed Highway 41 and did damage in the Kentland area.  A billboard and a former restaurant rooftop were damaged and a semi was tipped over.  A farm outbuilding was also damaged.  Debris was thrown some two miles downstream in an open field north of U-S 24.  That's where the tornado appeared to lift.

In Kentland, winds peaked at 90 mph, the twister traveled 3.2 miles and was 50 yards in width, according to the NWS report.  The Kentland Fire Department worked most all weekend assisting those without power.

Damage assessment teams aren't done yet.  The Knauth Cattle Farm EF-2 was the second such confirmed tornado in Iroquois County.  Buckley's EF-1 was already confirmed.

Considerable damage was also reported in Ford County at Gibson City and in rural Livingston County.
